“Bionical Emas envisioned a professional, yet calming work environment that would improve the employee experience and welcome them back to the office after an extended period of remote working. They saw the new office as an opportunity to uplift their company culture and staff morale by encouraging communication and collaborative working. We formed a close working partnership with our client’s project team; taking them on a furniture showroom tour to get a feel for their desired aesthetic and ensuring our designers had a comprehensive understanding of their brand and values.

While subtle nods to Bionical Emas’ brand reflect their global identity, a neutral colour palette allows the imposing windows to evoke the manufacturing history of the building, giving their Hertfordshire office its own distinct identity. Nature is welcomed into the space with indoor planting, while desks are positioned around the building perimeter to maximise views of the outdoor green space and promote employee wellbeing.

The new office includes three meeting rooms, a private office, a spacious breakout area and teapoint for staff, and front of house reception with a supplementary refreshment point for visitors. With a choice of where and how they work, Bionical Emas’ teams now have more autonomy over their daily work environment – from a large collaboration table, to sit and stand hot desks, to quiet areas for focused work. “The offices are occupying 600 sqm on the 11th floors of an office building in the heart of the city. The beautiful 360° skyline view of the city was at the origin of the planning, and a special layout was conceived, in which the open spaces are delimited by different functions, such as meeting rooms, play areas etc. In this way, the different divisions can maintain their calm and quiet, while still staying connected. This plan also offers modularity to the spaces, and enables the placement of additional workstations in the future. This open plan layout, along with the fact that the space is occupying an entire floor, allows a fun round circulation in the office, encircling the core of the building.

The “public” spaces were planned to have a direct connection with the main entrance as well as with a sea view, offering a vast lounge area with an open kitchen and an island, multiple dining arrangements, a billiard table and a cosy sitting space with a sofa and hammocks.

The design style of the office is light and clean while introducing a sense of warmth; Light Scandinavian wood was used for the floors and almost all furniture. Colours were used sparingly, the palette being inspired by the graphic characteristics of the company.

The architecture studio partnered up with artist Dima Korma in order to create a two wall installations inspired by the company’s nature and the city view.”

“The concept for the new 1517 Media office is about connecting to each other. The shift from downtown into the North Loop provides 1517 Media a chance to re-write the fabric of their office. How they meet, who comes to work, how do they feel inspired. The work that 1517 Media does is essential. Through their creativity and brilliance, they translate the past into the present. Creating stories and messages that have resonated through the ages but are new again.

This work is essential for their community and creating this work of faith requires connections. Those will be digital, physical and emotional. The new office will support these modalities. Work will happen in the office and away from it. Coming to the office will inspire the teams at 1517 Media to create new products and materials that will go to market and engage their community.

“The new office features and showcases the work of 1517 Media upon your arrival,” said Betsy Vohs, Studio BV Founder and CEO. “The product and media bookcase wall becomes the center of the space. Translating information and bringing people together to create. The reading room space is the welcome gallery and the anchor for the office.”

The enclosed workspaces support creativity and privacy. The open areas are near the light. The cafe creates a connection and a hub in the office. The new enclosed spaces will have new technology paired with existing furniture to create a new sense of place.

The next evolution of the 1517 Media office requires teams to be mobile. Teams will move around the office to do their best work. They will come to work to meet and collaborate and to connect with each other. Most of the focus work will happen away from the office. This new office is a catalyst for people to do their best work in a place that is designed to support the creative process.”

“The space’s open concept has a casual, creative feel that reflects the agency’s own brand. With a variety of meeting spaces and work areas, as well as standout views for all to enjoy, the design fosters efficiency and inspiration.

The historically industrial, mercantile and marine context of what is now the Financial District in Manhattan inspired the overall aesthetic of the space including materials, finishes, and product selections. This inspiration also influenced the design of custom components, including the custom bench system at the office perimeter, as well as workstations with solid wood desktops and raw steel components.

Among the priorities of the design: inspiring creativity, fostering collaboration between the accounts- oriented and creative teams with ample room for a variety of meeting spaces, and leaving the views of the river and beyond unobstructed for all to experience. These goals were achieved by creating three distinct sections within the open office areas, which were further distinguished by being set at various elevations: raised platforms with offices and conference rooms, workstation areas, and perimeter meeting spaces.”

The renovation of the One Southwest Office Building (OSWX) is emblematic of a radical shift in office trends during the pandemic. This building was 80% vacant before the renovation. It is now 90% leased in less than one year.

There are two major factors that are driving this turn around. A large exodus of downtown Minneapolis and the relocation of office spaces back to the suburbs to align with where people live. The second factor is redesigning the building and brand to reflect a contemporary, modern and adaptable office building that supports what tenants are looking for in an office. Work norms and behaviors are shifting. Companies are looking for key components in a new office like easy parking, great access to highways, and amenities. This building had two of the three key components, but it was lacking amenities. The building was outdated and very drab. The atrium space was under utilized and had fake plants and park benches.

“The design team reimagined the atrium. The strategy was to create a large space for meeting, lounging and gathering,” said Betsy Vohs, Studio BV Founder and CEO. “New furniture, rugs, plants, lighting and media create a compelling space to spend your workday.” The other large shift was moving the front door to align with the large parking deck. The new front door has a new exterior plaza, door system, entry and welcome are and two large stair features.

The one stair connects the existing cat walks to each other. The floor plates are a big U shape. There were existing cat walk connections over the atrium that were underutilized. The design team redesigned these and created a stair that connected these together. The other large stair connects the new entry level to the atrium space. This wood stair has places to sit and gather and creates a strong connection between the atrium space and the main entry. The coffee shop will complete the space and create an amenity for the users of the building and be the anchor of the atrium.

“Infosys are expecting to double their growth in 2022, with plans to hire over 1,000 workers in the UK over the next three years as part of their commitment to support the economic recovery and growth. Infosys required a space that is adaptable to their expansion and following an acquisition spree in recent years, it was the perfect opportunity for change.

Working in collaboration with project managers Mace, our design concept needed to reflect innovation, collaboration and community. With Infosys joining creative subsidiary brand Wongdoody under the same roof, their new workplace needed to strengthen the connection between teams, creating a vibrant and social environment.

With an aspiration to encourage more collaboration across departments and promote a greater sense of community, our design team evolved existing spaces and developed four key areas throughout: Ideation Areas, for people to come together and discuss initial ideas and concepts; Living Labs, to support the development process; Townhall Space, including a 50-seat auditorium; and an Energy Innovation Hub, with meeting lounge, breakout space and client suite.

With a mission to support regional designers and innovators, bespoke furniture and fittings were sourced locally and London based graffiti artist Matt Thomas (Indelible) was commissioned to create a personalised mural, illustrating Infosys’ brand values of sustainability, inclusivity and resilience. Employee experience is also supported within the design with bold use of biophilic elements and considered placement of furniture and joinery elements to make best use of the space. Open plan work zones, focus spaces and breakout areas have been arranged to maximise natural light and showcase the vibrant views of Shoreditch.

A key driver for this project was the delivery in accordance with strict sustainability principles. Energy usage has been reduced through the implementation of efficient lighting, passive infrared sensors and optimised lighting controls. Additionally, sustainable and locally sourced materials have been used throughout the scheme, including environmentally efficient flooring and wall coverings, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) joinery and timber, as well as low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints. During the construction phase, over 98% of waste was diverted from landfill. These efforts throughout the design and construction phase have resulted in the project achieving a Ska Gold accreditation.”

“With a large tea point, break out spaces, a games room and even a Peloton bike station, staff are encouraged to be active and interact in a fun and functional workplace.

Our team went through a virtual design development process as we entered the first phase of this project during lockdown – hosting presentations online and collaborating with both internal and external teams remotely. A rigorous and coordinated approach enabled our team to distil the key design concepts and incorporate the client’s feedback, resulting in a design that aligned with Investigo’s values and business objectives.

Upon entering the office, employees and visitors are greeted with a bold reception desk featuring Investigo’s updated branding and a green wall with illuminated signage. The client waiting area is open to the shared teapoint and allows visitors an insight into Investigo’s brand identity and culture of activity. Sleek front of house meeting suites provide the privacy necessary to interview their clients, which is key to helping them grow their business. Flexibility is built into the space, with three training rooms with folding walls, and a variety of work settings promote agile work practices. There are areas to suit every work function in the business, from open booths to soft break out furniture and a high island for meetings on the go.”

“HONGDesigworks builds spiral stairs, beautiful dimensional artwork to achieve spatial unity of the board and office floors. The shape of the circle and spiral arrangement of the stairs allows function and visual aesthetic perception to combine perfectly.

The reception desk becomes the unique observation deck under the reflection of light and shadow.Carpets of diverse styles that highlight and distinguish functional areas cooperate with furniture and artworks give the space a more flexible possibility.

The dining area shows a fusion of elements of Chinese and Western dining styles. The Chinese restaurant uses red color as the dominant color, emphasizing the elegant eastern atmosphere. The western restaurant fits the space pattern with the western-style long table. The sunshine makes everything full of vitality.

The bar area with blue color would become a good place that releases negative energy and activate the confident working attitude. In the office area, the combination of gray leather seats and wooden furniture creates a peaceful atmosphere. In the office space of the chairman, the functional configuration becomes the protagonist. The high-level texture is reflected by uses of wood and leather materials. The whole area reveals a calm atmosphere with a concise style. The lobby is concise and full of details.

HONGdesignworks avoids complicated decorative elements, uses colors and controls of views of lines and proportion, finally obtains an office space with practicality, flexibility, and artistic texture.”

“In a world of work that is constantly changing, there was no better time for Citrix to renew their strategic vision, transforming their organisation to deliver an employee experience consistent with their new way of working. This mission was key in unlocking the potential within their own organisation and better supporting their clients to innovate through change.

Cambridge Science Park has been home to the UK Citrix Research and Development team for over a decade. Having occupied approx. 30,000 sqft of space on the first floor, Citrix were keen to reconfigure their existing workplace and take over additional space on the ground floor to increase operations for their programming and engineering teams. Working in collaboration with Agents – Colliers International, Architects – Gensler and Engineers – Magnus Opifex, our brief was to create a vibrant and technology-enabled environment to facilitate engagement, creativity and productivity – reflective of the Citrix vision and culture.

Our understanding and translation of Gensler’s design intent was established during early consultation with the Citrix project team. Our objective was to interpret this vision and in turn, maximise the potential of the space in order for Citrix to establish a ‘new way of working’ and achieve their cultural aspirations.”

“As we dove into Saatchi & Saatchi’s world and learned about how their teams developed projects it became clear that the creatives needed a safe space to build and break and re-build ideas and concepts before formally pitching to their project leads. The “idea” became its own constituent in the project – something to be considered spatially and solved for specifically. Whenever a design decision needed to be made, we returned to the question: “what is in the best service to protect the idea?”.

Our primary Client shared a desire to create a new home for the agency that supported exploration and fostered curiosity. The meandering path provides views across open “fields” (neighborhoods) and links up a series of protective seed pods (project areas / rooms) for safe and hidden idea generation; and garden walls to define the crops and showcase / pin-up the harvest. Apertures and strategic wayfinding allow the project to unfold rather than revealing itself all at once,” says Blitz.
