Financial services company ChinLink recently hired interior design firm HONG Designworks to design their new office in Xian, China.

“HONGDesigworks builds spiral stairs, beautiful dimensional artwork to achieve spatial unity of the board and office floors. The shape of the circle and spiral arrangement of the stairs allows function and visual aesthetic perception to combine perfectly.

The reception desk becomes the unique observation deck under the reflection of light and shadow.Carpets of diverse styles that highlight and distinguish functional areas cooperate with furniture and artworks give the space a more flexible possibility.

The dining area shows a fusion of elements of Chinese and Western dining styles. The Chinese restaurant uses red color as the dominant color, emphasizing the elegant eastern atmosphere. The western restaurant fits the space pattern with the western-style long table. The sunshine makes everything full of vitality.

The bar area with blue color would become a good place that releases negative energy and activate the confident working attitude. In the office area, the combination of gray leather seats and wooden furniture creates a peaceful atmosphere. In the office space of the chairman, the functional configuration becomes the protagonist. The high-level texture is reflected by uses of wood and leather materials. The whole area reveals a calm atmosphere with a concise style. The lobby is concise and full of details.

HONGdesignworks avoids complicated decorative elements, uses colors and controls of views of lines and proportion, finally obtains an office space with practicality, flexibility, and artistic texture.”

Private company hird architecture and interior design firm AYZ Studio to design their new office located in China’s World Trade Center Tower III in Beijing.

“In the brand-new office space, the traditional densely arranged working areas disappeared. Instead, multiple walking paths centered on the tea area at entrance achieved cross-functional coordination.

Following the rock-textured curved wall, there were the meeting area and the chairman’s office, both of which occupied 120 square meters with the widest view on the north side. The meeting room was connected to the chairman’s office, and the tea room and meeting room as a public activity area were set opposite to the tea area. The glass curtain wall brought the landscape into a larger view.

Except for the regular traffic line along the curved wall, the public working area and the two independent offices on the south could be reached by the door opened outward in the corridor as a shortcut.

The central tea area, as a transportation hub, connected the entire space. The almost fully open functional space enhanced the cohesiveness of staff, and the relaxed and wise atmosphere made the whole space appear soft and rational.

Although most of the clients targeted by the owners came from the elite of traditional industries, the office design insisted to showcase its ideas and business strategies in a younger manner. After getting out of the rigid safety zone, it would usher in joy. Whether from the space palette, the overall atmosphere, or the attitude that AYZ STUDI O wanted to express, the inspiration was infused with nature and delight.

The more concise meeting room, enclosed circular discussion area, and contemporary oriental tea room provided three levels of social spaces. The boundary between public and private areas was eliminated, and a more comfortable way of socializing could happen there at any time.

Transformed from natural textures, the material veins and patterns were presented through stone, textured cloth and micro landscape. These designs that tended to be natural and wild were inserted into the space, creating an interesting freehand style of curved and plane surfaces. Together with the insightful vegetation and rocks, the design formed a balanced office ecology and provided an efficient workplace that was conducive to creativity, ”,says AYZ Studio.

Global law firm Hogan Lovells recently hired workplace design studio MCX Interior to design their new office in Beijing, China.

“When an opportunity arose to enhance their unity and inclusiveness by moving to a new, full floor space that became available in the same building, Hogan Lovells identified the potential of this opportunity and engaged MCX Interior to create a thriving and inclusive workplace environment that will foster and empower its employees to succeed.

Sustainability played an important role in the design of Hogan Lovells’ new office to help their employees think, feel and work better in offices with more natural lighting, clean air, comfortable temperature, lovely views of the outside and inspiring design. Sustainable design features in this office that reduce energy and water consumption, introduce biophilic design and improve air quality have also earned Hogan Lovells a LEED Gold certification for their new workplace.

These efforts have not only given Hogan Lovells the only commercial interior office in the entirety of the China Central Place complex with LEED Gold certification, but also made Hogan Lovells proudly the first law firm ever to receive LEED Gold certification for its office anywhere in Beijing, China.

The design inspiration for the Hogan Lovells new office came from water and its edges, encapsulating the firm’s slogan for its commitment to inclusion: “One Hogan Lovells: many perspectives”. The water symbolizes Hogan Lovells moving as one fluid team in harmony. On the edge of the water, we find life in various forms that offer new perspectives, reminding us to respect diversity and treasure identity and unity

The water concept appears throughout the design in the space planning and even ceiling light features that guide users throughout the office. The lighting can change colors for various activities, events and internationally recognized holidays, as well as periodic firm-initiated awareness days to signify diversity and inclusion.

Employees can find a space to focus, collaborate or unwind at the water’s edge. Artistic carving in the wood panels throughout the office symbolizes the water’s edge. The design introduces lush shades of green and plants spread throughout the office to connect employees with nature. Ergonomic furniture and height-adjustable tables also provide a comfortable workplace to promote employee health and wellness.

Natural light floods the office and brings a flow and vibrance of energy. Glass walls on most perimeter offices maximize the natural light and views into the inner spaces. The meeting rooms use a polarized electronic glass system in the operable wall that enables privacy inside the meeting rooms without impacting the office’s openness. The reception, meeting rooms and business lounge can be combined to host events and town halls. Hogan Lovells’ new office will serve as a truly diverse, inclusive and sustainable workplace to help attract talent, drive innovation and deliver the best experience for their employees and clients,” says MCX Interior.

A real estate firm Maison recently hired architecture firm Uma design to design their new office in Shanghai, China.

“The Pythagoras school of ancient Greece believed that the world is made up of digital logic—all things are numbered, and number is the origin of all things. Only with numbers can there be geometrical points, and only with points can there be lines and three-dimensionality, and three-dimensionality generates fire, air, water, and earth, and everything is born from this.

In the ups and downs of the digital wave, UMA Design has joined hands with everyone, Maison, so that the never-ending algorithm and order, like the coding sequence of DNA, are presented in a more visual way in the space. The viewer is invited to set off on this journey, step into the future, and understand the nature of life and all things.

Space is a geometric point, line and surface. Stepping into the space, the designer used a set of suspension devices that resembled a Mobius belt to play a small space game with the viewer. Using this as a visual foundation, the line and surface are not only the material that declares the space, but also the hint that the digital logic and the three-dimensional form will become the clues of the space.

The designer was attracted by the semi-permeability of the horizontal strip structure, and used the skylight projected in to neutralize the heavy technological sense of the ceiling installation structure. In the light of different angles, the reflection and transmission of light make the installation diffuse a hazy and mysterious future.

Breaking through the neat and static linear display, through the calculation trajectory of digital logic, the dynamic formation makes the spatial level fluctuate. The dots, lines and planes are transformed into something that transcends the real world. The huge tree of life stretches out its vibrant branches and leaves, constituting a meticulously unknown source of life.

Kandinsky mentioned in his book “Points, Lines, flat”: “Relying on the spiritual investigation of the individual art, this element analysis is a bridge to the inner rhythm of the work.” Lines and surfaces are solid, but also It is freedom. The connection between the line and the surface constructs the interesting and artistic tension of the space, and becomes a bridge connecting the upper and lower spaces.

The space is flowed with lines, and the jumping sphere breaks the solidified dimension, visually dilutes the commercial sense of the space, reflects the abundant spiritual existence of the space, adds the flowing dimension of time to the concise space, and conveys the joy and innocence of the deep memory”, says Uma Design.

Law firm Baker McKenzie recently hired interior design firm MCX Interior to design their new office in Beijing, China.

“Baker McKenzie engaged MCX Interior to assist them with the latest office renovation of their existing office in the China World Trade Center.
The design creates a dynamic space that re-divides its existing floor plate into functional and flexible spaces to meet the client’s diverse meeting and operational needs.

Mountains and water inspire the new office’s design aesthetic to reflect both elegance and dignity. In traditional Chinese culture, water represents intelligence and wisdom as well as flexibility and softness, while mountains reflect constancy, eternity and firmness.

The marble finishes, artwork and carpet patterns echo the mountains and water theme to create an atmosphere that evokes trust and reliability. The floor and ceiling finishes create a fluid transition between spaces and guide users through this newly renovated, innovative and multifunctional office,” says MCX Interior.

Real estate group Sunac hired architecture design firm W Studio to design their new office in Taiyuan, China.

“Entering the lobby on the first floor, the empty reception area is open and bright. On the white texture, long and narrow black stones run through from the top to the ground, like a waterfall flowing down from the mountain. The reception desk made of black and white stone is long and simple, having a sense of lightness under the huge space background.

The light lines hanging down from ceiling form a layered vertical and horizontal relationship with the seams of the stone wall, and a comfortable, open and stable mood breeds from this moment. Turn left from the reception desk to the sandboard area in the central. A huge light box protrudes from the ceiling and hangs over the sand table on the stone. Under the background of left and right black and white walls, the entire Sunac commercial land is full of vitality.
The sand table area is facing the stairway. Viewing from the first floor, the black handrails fold and rotate down, and the last few white steps fall on the ground, like an open entrance, waiting for guests to step into a mysterious area. Except for the stairway, the whole stair is wrapped in black wood veneer. Standing under the stairs from another angle and looking up, the structure of the stair is like a rising mountain standing and growing in the space.

The black room protruding from the air is like a hovering spaceship. The hanging white light bulbs and the metallic planetary artwork jointly tell the possibility of future life. Installations and artistic paintings abstract natural symbols. Infinite imagination began to float in the unlimited black and white universe, and the role and function of the space became no longer single.

In the negotiation area near the window on the first floor, materials and colors are enriched. The marble with natural texture is inserted into the ground from the ceiling, and the soft light also falls, reconciling black and white. The addition of gray and green brings the rhythm of spring. On the gray textured carpet, the sofa is soft but with clear edges and corners, like rocks on the ground. The gray-green armchairs also continue this style. Mountains, land, and water are rubbed into materials and furniture, and all the rich details of the arrangement also make the atmosphere of the negotiation area relaxed and arbitrary.

Go up the black and white stairs to the second floor, the swaying universe and free-growing natural texture are weakened, and replaced by an open rest area with calm colors. The large area of wood color on the ceiling and the ground coats the space with a layer of forest base, and the display racks with high and low distribution and combination of virtual and solid define different areas. The compact display of furniture, books, and artworks also brings people’s feelings from infinity back to more specific environment.

The children’s rest area is also designed in this space. On the white-green circular carpet, the soft and childlike children’s furniture is rich and gentle in color, which is full of exquisiteness against the outline of the city outside the window. The downy and comfortable sofa and the hanging fireplace in the visual center create a safe resting space in the urban jungle. Sitting around the fireplace without disturbing each other, sit here for a while and then enter the showroom to complete a just right transition from space to mood,” says W Studio.

Ceramic tile manufacturer I.T Ceramiche hired interior design firm Foshan Topway Design to design their new office in Foshan, China.

“The design intends to blend Italian living aesthetics that features natural comfortableness, artistic taste and affordable luxury into oriental context, to endow the brand with unique romantic and artistic charm. 1F and 2Ffunction as product display, reception and leisure spaces, while 3F and 4F are used for working and logistics purposes.

The building is a four-storey construction. The architectural appearance is inspired by the popular “Rubik’s Cube”. Each floor is a box, which interactively rotates, together creating a twisting form that shows contradictory yet interdependent visual effects and highlights the mechanical beauty of the building blocks. Plain, heavy and dark cement bricks offer a strong visual contrast to the light transparent glass box, making the building “boxes” appear suspended in the air. The contrast between black and white, lightness and heaviness, void and solidness, together with the free plane and facade design, contributes to producing changes to the architectural form. The harmonious combination of brass metal and dark gray terrazzo, colored acrylic glass and marbles, as well as artificial synthetic materials and traditional natural materials, perfectly demonstrates the brand’s sense of affordable luxury, ultimate craftsmanship and aesthetic concept.

The concept of “Cube” is extended to the interior design, which creates free yet contrasting spatial forms. At the lobby, the ceiling is finished with a stainless steel panel featuring rippling patterns, which create a feeling of being underwater. The rotating wall and ceiling are connected and interpenetrated via blocks, giving the space a strong sense of architectural blocks. The luxurious pink stone and the cement-like flooring form a sharp contrast, while accentuating their own unique textures. Visitors can appreciate different views at each step along the circulation route. The core of this free space is that it never restricts people’s behaviors. Instead, it guides them to walk and explore under the “rippling water”. The poetic design language enables the architectural space to resonate with inner mind.

The 3 columns of different sizes in the space seem to gradually peel off the coverings of the building, creating strong visual effects and leading people into philosophical thinking: What is real perfection? The design emphasizes the collision among materials of different textures. Polished terrazzo, exquisite marbles and rusting universal beams, either smooth or rough, cool or warm, are applied to constructing the space by means of contrast, analogy, symbiosis, repetition and order, etc. The column at the center is integrated with metal, aluminum and glass to form a new architectural and visual element. Such combination embodies an exploration of sustainable materials and an inheritance of modernism. Design is more than superficial decoration, but more importantly should explore and bring more possibilities of internal reconstruction,” says Foshan Topway Design.

Communications agency Switching Time recently hired interior design firm hcreates to design their new office in Shanghai, China.

“An upcoming powerhouse on the communications scene and helmed by Taiwing Tian and Florent Chapatte, their new office was designed to bring together their fast-expanding team and promote a collaborative working environment. As well as having a space that made their team proud to work in, they wanted it to feel like an extension of their home. Each person is seen as part of the Switching Time family, a strong principle that runs within the company culture, so it was important to give a sense of homely comfort within the spaces.

Having well outgrown their previous office, the team was looking for more collaborative working space, a large well organised storeroom and a multifunctional team training and event area. hcreates divided the space into three zones – play, work, and store. The play zone incorporated the welcome area and multifunction spaces. Containing the entertainment area, a large boardroom opens onto a lounge and bar, used for combined team and training events. A meeting pod and call booths separate this space from the work zone. The ability to visually close off the play and work zones, allowed for people to work undistracted and retain working privacy during client events.

Co-Founder Taiwing’s fun sense of style made for an on trend bright and cheery colour palette. An open plan office, for the few enclosed spaces it did require, it was important that these had a good visual link to the rest of the team with large floor to ceiling glass walls looking over the main space. hcreates collaborated with Switching Time’s internal design team to incorporate bright wallpaper patterns matching their colour scheme for the meeting rooms and seating booths, pulling them visually into the open space.

As always with old buildings we didn’t quite know what we would find until demolition had been completed. Previously a large commercial canteen for the whole office block, the entire floor needed to be completely stripped back. A corner site, it has a long curving wall along one side creating soft lines, but a challenge to integrate with typically square office fixtures. After demolition, several columns within the centre of the space were uncovered. hcreates left these exposed incorporating them into the wall of the meeting rooms, which contrasted nicely against the crisp white new walls, giving texture and history to the space. One of the pleasant surprises and most distinctive element in the space was a large double height space within the middle of the office. With the ability to add a window within this roof void it brought in needed natural light and gave the centre of the office an impressive sense of height and relief.

Kian furniture’s Shanghai team, conveniently located in the same building, provided all the new furniture. Their on trend seasonal colours and style perfectly matched the offices new colour scheme and complimented the overall look. To maximise cost vs quality ratio, hcreates focused on using off-the-shelf, cost-efficient materials and detailing without sacrificing impact and quality. Clean white walls and easily maintained oak wood flooring contrasted against simple, but effective painted colour pops within the office and meeting rooms.

As a hands-on client with a sharp eye for detail and slick project management skills, this made for an efficiently run project which was delivered on time, on budget and in style! hcreates wishes them all the best and hope they thrive in their new space and team environment,” says hcreates.

Cryptocurrency technology company ViaBTC recently hired architecture firm ONEXN Architects to design their new office in Shenzen, China.

“The importance of orientation lies in its strong links with the surrounding nature, which brings light and views, and it is far from the designer’s control. What normally happens to our clients is that they only have conceptual requirements but feel difficult to detail them. In this case, our customers only requested their space to be located at the northwest corner and all other problems remain to be allocated by a systematic design strategy.

To build a practical and dynamic circulation as well as cater for the huge demand of workplaces, we located the public areas along the south side where a beautiful garden is faced so that everyone can enjoy a glimpse of nature. All departments are located in the northwest where people can enjoy an unblocked outside view of the city. The open office for software developers is located on the northern side as they need to shut the roller blind to avoid the glare while working, and we were able to avoid the negative impact of the orientation and the noise of the traffic from outside.

Public buffer zone

The multi-functional public area is the place for fun, including afternoon tea, reading, fitness and group gathering. It is necessary to have buffer areas, commonly known as the public service area. By combining some living functionality such as entertainment, we expect that our clients can enjoy a relaxing and community-like atmosphere in a refreshing space full of natural lights.

To design the space with a strong sense of community, we arrange the positions for each piece of furniture to form a socialized perception and cater for the multi-purpose usage at the same time, instead of dividing the space with walls. What we did is creating the public space which conveys populates happiness and the sense of living ritual.

Flowing intersection and sections

In the corridors surrounding the core, we inserted several buffer zones with installations such as colorful boxes, leisure areas with bar tables. Our design not only attracts people’s attention but also blends in a little fun while people walking through the area. More importantly, our design broke the stereotype of IT companies which are often clumsy and enforced view of technology.

In this case, we discarded the passive way of directly entering the room via the corridor. We also created several types of space with different extents of resilience and scales where the functionality can be applied, and such spaces also increase the possibility of employees’ communication and socializing,” said ONEXN Architects.

French beverage company Pernod Ricard recently tasked architecture & interior design firm M Moser Associates to design their new office in Hong Kong.

“Despite being in the business of selling “moments of conviviality”, Pernod Ricard’s previous office hindered cross-department communication and social interactions, leaving ample room for improvement for its once-siloed departments to connect with one another.

We designed the office from the perspective of Pernod Ricard customers and staff to facilitate meaningful human connections, with the front of house as the pinnacle of all celebrations. This approach helped to create a work environment that spatially speaks to the company’s convivial culture and instils pride in hosting guests and events in-house as opposed to third-party venues.

The bar standing at the nucleus of the front of house exhibits a casual and upscale ambiance without coming off too pretentious; a nudge to the company’s values of promoting simple, open, and direct relationships. A training room in its vicinity uses sliding acoustic doors, to provide a quiet environment for learning and knowledge sharing when closed, and nurture a lively and connected community with the rest of the front of house when fully open.

Opportunities to connect are extended throughout the rest of the workplace with a variety of open, collaborative zones; a dramatic improvement driving a holistic cultural transformation across the organisation. Driving much of the design inspiration, the company’s values of instilling “conviviality at work” improve efficiency while maximising chances for spontaneous encouters among staff.

Connecting people with Pernod Ricard brands

With a world-renowned portfolio of premium products, one of our key objectives was to incorporate visual elements from some of Pernod Ricard’s most iconic brands into its meeting spaces with distinct patterns and decors while maintaining consistent subtlety in honour of the company’s modest nature. Colors, adjusted lighting, furniture, and accessories are integrated and curated in each meeting room to fit a particular brand’s unique identity and cater to the needs of its occupants.

Inspired by the hospitality industry’s most essential need to make its guests feel welcomed the moment they step inside, Pernod Ricard wanted its new office to offer choice and imbue a sense of familiarity and comfort from the outset. Health and wellness are prioritised by locating all meeting rooms around the core of the floor plan, thereby infusing the social hubs and working areas with maximal daylight. Flexible configurations, including sit-stand desks, fitness and yoga equipment, as well as green walls and other biophilia tactfully placed around the office, contribute to a healthy environment where staff feel engaged and taken care of,” says M Moser Associates.

Integrated communication agency Switching Time recently hired interior design firm hcreates to design their new office in Shanghai, China.

“Having well outgrown their previous office, the team was looking for more collaborative working space, a large well organised storeroom and a multifunctional team training and event area.

hcreates divided the space into three zones – play, work, and store.

With the ability to add a window within this roof void it brought in needed natural light and gave the centre of the office an impressive sense of height and relief.”
