Railroad company Network Rail recently hired workplace design firm Oktra to design their new office in London, England.

“We began working with the Southern Region on the design and fit out of their six-storey hub HQ in January of 2020. When the pandemic hit, we refreshed our designs to be fully COVID-secure in order to facilitate a safe return to work for their employees whilst sticking to our original design principles and ensuring we built in the flexibility needed to adapt the layout if and when physical distancing relaxes.

The new office is designed around two-metre social distancing, supported by a two-metre floor grid and directional flow cut into the carpet which can be changed post pandemic. All meeting rooms are completely open to eliminate enclosed spaces. All necessary doors are automated and we’ve incorporated anti-microbial materials, occupancy sensors, bespoke signage and many other design elements to ensure Network Rail’s staff can return to the office safely and feel confident in doing so. Our design team also provided a bespoke training video to help teach staff how to use their new workspace.”

Virtual tv operator more.tv hired architecture and interior design firm ABD Architects to design their new office in Moscow, Russia.

“At first glance, the office is traditionally zoned: workplaces are located in open space, and offices are provided for managers and top managers of the company. There are also a large number of meeting rooms, open and closed, for meetings with clients and within the company. But, in addition to working places and meeting rooms, there are numerous collaboration zones of various formats. They are scattered throughout the office, and one of these collaborative spaces is a sports area with a climbing wall and bungee jumping. A large space is reserved for temporary workplaces, which can be used, among other things, for working together during the day and for board games in the evening. Also in the office there are two spacious kitchens, one of which, with an amphitheater, is designed as a place to watch movies together. The concept of office design is connected with the image of the sea as a natural element. The sea is always changing: it can be calm, raging, mysterious-absolutely different. The office managed to create a special atmosphere of the sea, constantly changing and leaving no one indifferent.

In general, the office is designed in various shades of gray with bright coral color accents. The plaster on the walls has a different texture: concrete with formwork, stone, brick. Bright elements immediately attract attention: in open space, these are lamps and air ducts, in meeting rooms – chairs and acoustic elements on the ceiling, and in the reception area – neon lighting. At the entrance to the office, the company’s guests are greeted by the original reception space, which immediately surprises and attracts the eye. The wall behind the counter simultaneously resembles the underwater world, and fantastic films, and the scenery for the play. The architects used old TV sets overgrown with algae as a reference to the company’s activities, elements from movie props and plants – the result was a bright and very unusual solution. The author’s installations in TV sets express the idea of rethinking the perception of human life through the TV screen.

A coffee point for employees is a large space that looks more like a cafe or a place for informal meetings than just an office kitchen. Neon wave lights and iridescent mother-of-pearl kitchen apron, wicker furniture, and a surfboard create an atmosphere of summer party and relaxation. Also in this area is an amphitheater, where you can relax, work and watch movies with colleagues. The meeting rooms are named unusually: Atlantis, Avatar, Tortuga, Narnia, and so on. Quotes and images referring to famous films are applied very delicately, in the form of solid black images over textured gray plaster. Orange crab chairs and acoustic colored coral elements on the ceiling look unusual and bright.

The office of the head of the company is combined with the general style of the office, where gray color and textured surfaces prevail. The bright turquoise wall and shelf stand out, as well as handmade lamps made to order in the papier-mache technique, which seem to glow with fire from the inside.”

Data centre operator NEXTDC recently hired architecture and interior design firm Hames Sharley to design their new part office, part data center in Perth, Australia.

“Hames Sharley worked closely with Urbis and City of Perth (CoP) to deliver an outcome that worked for the local council and the client – balancing the security requirements with the City’s desire for an open and transparent public interface. As the architect and interior designer for P2 Perth, Hames Sharley also worked closely with subcontractors to deliver organised and considered services layout and routes, where possible.

The project provided several challenging scenarios, the greatest involving the need to deliver a non-public building with a public interface that also connected the street level.

Strong, bold architectural accents of red connect to emphasise 3D spatial geometries in NEXTDC, while spatial layering throughout controls lighting and sight-lines. Think refined industrial, exposed services and metallic finishes, which make up the overall design aesthetic.

Hames Sharley added further value by investigating and implementing, (within budget), the inclusion of breakout spaces to the street for additional façade activation and improved user experience.

The newly built facility is the pinnacle of data centre certifications worldwide. Tier IV infrastructure is a building block on top of the requirements for Tier III, adding complete fault tolerance to the infrastructure deployed on-site. Completely fault-tolerant infrastructure means that any individual equipment failures or distribution path interruptions that occur will have no impact on the overall operations of the facility.

The delivery method was Design and Construct, and Hames Sharley engaged early with the Head Contractor and sub-contractors on crucial design elements to ensure these critical elements were not overlooked, and the client achieved their optimal outcome.

With over 12,000m2 of technical data centre space at full fitout, P2 supports the highest-density, compute-intensive requirements for Perth organisations, and can scale from rack-ready cabinets to full contiguous rows and custom cages and private suites.”

A team of designers from interior design firm AIS Workplace recently completed a new interior for office space provider LDN:W in London, England.

“Ensuring that our design was sympathetic to the recently refurbished space was a key part of the process. By retaining the newly exposed ceilings and services we captured the aesthetic of the building whilst also creating a functional working environment. The polished concrete walls in the reception areas ensured the feeling of the building was felt as soon as you stepped onto each floor.

Set behind the reception area are glass panelled walls housing intimate meeting rooms fit with acoustic walls which simultaneously bring a pop of colour to the spaces. The numerous meeting rooms across the floor provide a space to escape from the open plan work areas for smaller group work, meetings or video calls. Whilst ensuring a sense of privacy, all meeting rooms are able to see both onto the view of the city and also into the office meaning they feel light and open but also feeling like a more intimate space.

The 5th floor is composed of two large working spaces fit with rows of desks, collaborative tables and comfortable seating areas. As well as this open plan area, there are additional focus rooms fit for one or two employees to be able to work away from any noise or distraction. Offering this choice and variety of working areas ensures that the workplace is able to meet the needs of the whole team no matter their working preferences.

Tucked around the corner of the open plan working space is a multifunctional hub which allows the whole team to spend time on their breaks, at lunch or even as an additional space for teamwork and meetings. The hub consists of a kitchen and island space, large table with bench seating, as well as two casual seating areas. This area also benefits from floor to ceiling views across the city of London.

Plants are weaved throughout the entire space building upon the notes of green in the design. As well as adding to the design aesthetically, biophilia is beneficial to users mental and physical health, creating a calming space to work in.”

Wine company Simple recently hired architecture and interior design firm IND Architects to design their new office in Moscow, Russia.

“The new office features a combination of open-space and dedicated offices for functional executives. For the interaction of employees of different directions, special zones have been created – a library with sofas and accent lamps integrated into the wall, and a number of niche pods for privacy and concentrated work.
The existing floor plan set the tone for the design – the elongated narrow shape of the floor, the entire building is characterized by a corridor layout, which is not the most efficient. Therefore, a network of volumes of closed rooms was created, scattered along the central part of the floor with an offset, around which (and along the panoramic glazing) an open workspace is located. This decision made it possible to get away from the long corridor.

The building has low ceilings, and to make the space more comfortable, they are left open, all communications and the floor slab are painted in a rich graphite shade. In offices and meeting rooms, the closed ceiling is facilitated by the fact that it is made in a rail, to match the walls. The two reception areas – the central one and in the top management sector – are solved in a different design: wood textures in the decoration of the wall panels remind of winemaking, and floor materials in the form of gray stones form the sophistication of the space.

The main coloristic solution of the office is monochrome – a warm shade of light gray. Soft fabrics act as bright accents in the common space: furniture, curtains and fabric panels add olive and terracotta touches. A lot of attention has been paid to lighting – thin curved lines above workstations, oval tilted accent lights in informal areas, complex multi-piece lighting structures that combine several different types of lighting in classrooms.

Small telephone booths and niches are scattered around the office, allowing employees to hold a one-on-one meeting or answer a phone call in silence, while the call center and temporary workplaces are equipped with acoustic panels. There is also a gym for various mental and breathing practices and a dining room with a professional kitchen.”

Architecture firm Ind Architects recently designed a new office for digital division of Alfa Bank in Moscow, Russia.

“The office for the Digital division of Alfa-Bank reflects the spirit of the bank’s innovation through the aesthetics of the Martian surface, unusual for office spaces, in the atmosphere of retro-futurism, close to the young and creative employees of Alfa Digital. Elon Musk, at the time of developing the concept of the office, was testing a new prototype of a spacecraft for a flight to Mars. This is how the metaphor appeared, which formed the basis of the concept: while humanity is just preparing to conquer the red planet, Alfa-Bank should already be on its way to it. In the office, the idea can be found on the walls, in the windows, the names of the meeting rooms and, of course, in color. Red is the main accent.

Most of the floor is occupied by developers who work in teams; next to the workplaces, there are areas for quick meetings and brainstorming – capsules. There are 15 of them in total. Capsules are named after spacecraft associated with Mars: Opportunity, Curiosity, Perseverance. Capsules are almost indistinguishable from ordinary meeting rooms: plenty of space, a large table, comfortable chairs and video communication equipment. But unlike classic meeting rooms, they have no walls: the capsules are separated from the rest of the space by red soundproof curtains. Instead of whiteboards, there are special panels (vertical, which is important for mobile app developers). The office has focus rooms with dark design and low lighting for maximum concentration.

One of the central areas of the office is an amphitheater with a gong, the sound of which gathers teams for important meetings. The amphitheater has a large touch screen on which you can draw.

Some of the workplaces are hot desks where any employee can sit. We also designed a high table top along the glazing with comfortable height-adjustable work chairs. Lockers with electronic locks are installed for storing personal belongings.

Much attention was paid to the game rooms in the project – these are spacious areas with a kicker, table tennis, a game console, lego and poufs. There you can relax a bit during the day or discuss business issues in an informal setting,” said Ind Architects.

Real estate investment company Prologis recently hired architecture and interior design firm RMW architecture & interiors to design their new office in Seattle, Washington.

“The search for a home that embodied the artesian vibe of Georgetown, Seattle led Prologis to the historic 1882 Seattle Brewing and Malting Co. building. The structure’s intimate two-story space was rich with cast-iron columns, exterior brick partitions, semi-plastered walls, and challenges to balance preservation and responsive programming for this collaborative team.

With the communicating stair as our focal point, we selectively touched spaces to craft a series of moments, creating a procession from the cozy entry through a robust brick portal to a coffee bar – the quintessential welcome to Seattle and an alternate reception area. A diverse configuration of meeting spaces underscore historic architecture, feature local artists, and lead up the vintage stair where work and play zones pivot to continuously enhance each person’s experience in a space that fits as we intended.”

Coworking space provider Headway recently hired architecture & interior design firm DA Bureau to design their new office in Moscow, Russia.

“Our goal was to create a space of total concentration and one-pointedness in the business centre of the bustling metropolis, where anyone can fully focus on their work. The design concept was based on the idea of dividing the space into two contrasting areas: The working area block is austere, transparent, advanced, lightweight; The public space units are out of line, chaotic, compact, eye-catching.

The forms and arrangement of these areas made it possible for us to depart from the concept of a long blank corridor and transform it into an integrated multifunctional space made up of lounge areas, reception units and open space areas flowing one into another. This partition is achieved not only through space zoning, but also through the use of proper materials. To create maximum aeriality, the working area is framed by glass partitions down to the level of the floor, with a minimal profile thickness. Carpet tiles were used on the floor to enhance acoustic comfort. The public areas, on the other hand, are executed in a monolithic and blind manner to a greatest possible extent, all of different materials. The meeting rooms are decorated with wood, the coffee point has a finishing of concrete with terrazzo, the utility area and sanitary facilities abound in stainless steel. The floor coating represents poured concrete of two colours: dark geometric shapes against a bright background create an illusion of shadow falling from the public-area framing, which enhances the contrast of the two zones.

The furniture by Danish and Italian manufacturers and the original stand lamps made according to our sketches give a touch of brightness to the interior. Particular attention was paid to the offices and their interior. Every office is a self-contained unit with an open concept: this makes it possible to create a workspace according to particular requirements of any company. All offices are well soundproofed owing to the use of up-to-date materials. In combination with the custom-made furniture, this ensures excellent autonomy and does not restrain the employees.

The greatest challenge in creating the minimalist interior was the extensive utilities and lots of structural elements in combination with a non-standard layout executed as a part of the Reuleaux triangle. However, the unconventional approach helped us not only to resolve these difficulties, but also to reproduce the standard functional areas in a new way. In addition, the attention todetail, coupled with non-mainstream design, helped us to create an unusual design code that became the hallmark of the coworking space,” says DA Bureau.

Advertising agency TBWA\Chiat\Day hired architecture and interior design firm Spatial Affairs Bureau to design their new office in Los Angeles, California.

“The Walled City’ masterplan, refurbishment and remodel for various account areas, coffee bar, and the Central Square, plus custom furniture as next stage to the Clive Wilkinson seminal 120,000 sq ft head office for this high profile advertising agency.

An ongoing masterplan and incremental remodel of the high-profile 1998 Clive Wilkinson Architects-designed ‘city in a box’ for top advertising agency TBWA\Chiat|Day’s Los Angeles Headquarters.

Spatial Affairs extended the metaphor to a ‘walled city’ environment, where hallmarks of the 25 year-old CWA scheme – such as exposed plywood and primary colors – are viewed as sacrosanct vestiges of the city’s earlier life.

The inner surface of the exterior wall is given a heightened identity as the container, and a new palette of materials such as red oak, and almost-black and occasional fluorescent coloyrs pin-point a late 20-teens moment,” says Spatial Affairs Bureau.

A real estate firm Maison recently hired architecture firm Uma design to design their new office in Shanghai, China.

“The Pythagoras school of ancient Greece believed that the world is made up of digital logic—all things are numbered, and number is the origin of all things. Only with numbers can there be geometrical points, and only with points can there be lines and three-dimensionality, and three-dimensionality generates fire, air, water, and earth, and everything is born from this.

In the ups and downs of the digital wave, UMA Design has joined hands with everyone, Maison, so that the never-ending algorithm and order, like the coding sequence of DNA, are presented in a more visual way in the space. The viewer is invited to set off on this journey, step into the future, and understand the nature of life and all things.

Space is a geometric point, line and surface. Stepping into the space, the designer used a set of suspension devices that resembled a Mobius belt to play a small space game with the viewer. Using this as a visual foundation, the line and surface are not only the material that declares the space, but also the hint that the digital logic and the three-dimensional form will become the clues of the space.

The designer was attracted by the semi-permeability of the horizontal strip structure, and used the skylight projected in to neutralize the heavy technological sense of the ceiling installation structure. In the light of different angles, the reflection and transmission of light make the installation diffuse a hazy and mysterious future.

Breaking through the neat and static linear display, through the calculation trajectory of digital logic, the dynamic formation makes the spatial level fluctuate. The dots, lines and planes are transformed into something that transcends the real world. The huge tree of life stretches out its vibrant branches and leaves, constituting a meticulously unknown source of life.

Kandinsky mentioned in his book “Points, Lines, flat”: “Relying on the spiritual investigation of the individual art, this element analysis is a bridge to the inner rhythm of the work.” Lines and surfaces are solid, but also It is freedom. The connection between the line and the surface constructs the interesting and artistic tension of the space, and becomes a bridge connecting the upper and lower spaces.

The space is flowed with lines, and the jumping sphere breaks the solidified dimension, visually dilutes the commercial sense of the space, reflects the abundant spiritual existence of the space, adds the flowing dimension of time to the concise space, and conveys the joy and innocence of the deep memory”, says Uma Design.

Investment company More Group hired architecture design studio On Studio to design their new office in Tel Aviv, Israel.

“The design of the sales office of the prestigious Narkisim project of the MORE Group, in collaboration with Tidhar, projects its difference from the local landscape, emphasizing the group’s unique characteristics and those of potential customers
The space and the central elements design made use of the MORE Group’s rounded and colorful visual language.

The central element arches were made of expanded mesh to incorporate lighting, hanging from the ceiling to create a sense of movement and innovation while emphasizing the height of the space.

The shell of the high space remains exposed, with masonry and exposed concrete communicating an industrial look. At the same time, the space is divided by partitions made of birch wood and iron and glass frames. This combination of materials welds together the design concept and residential experience in the ‘Narkisim’ project – an urban loft, in a prestigious and innovative complex. The sense of movement in the office space emerges out of the different height levels combining to create a feeling of “rising in space”- thus enhancing the customer’s purchasing experience, as well as changing the angle of view of the space while moving,” says ON Studio.
